On April 5th 2007, BC Environment River Forecast Centre issued a Freshet Flood Risk Advisory ( link) to the public advising of a substantially higher snow pack level throughout most regions of the Province of British Columbia, and a corresponding forecast of well above normal spring runoff. In simple terms this means that flood risk to many regions of BC is much higher than normal, and the possibility of severe flooding is quite high.
The Government of BC began preparations for the spring flood risk early this year, and recently began dispersing funds to cities and municipalities to prepare for flooding. SAR teams in BC have also began training to respond to flood events and Coquitlam SAR is no exception.
