Coquitlam SAR started 2010 off with three requests for our assistance in the first weekend. On January 1st, Coquitlam SAR was requested by the RCMP to search the PoCo Trail system for a lost male. The man had been on an all day walk along the PoCo Trail. Due to a pre-existing medical condition, his family became concerned he may have become lost when he didn’t return before darkness. Searchers were mobilized and began searching the trails and parks areas by foot and Argo. An RCMP Air Service helicopter also search by air. Just after 10pm,...

Coquitlam Search and Rescue was contacted by the RCMP on Tuesday, November 17th, requesting our assistance in locating a male hiker on Eagle Ridge.
Coquitlam Search and Rescue's recent recruitment (http://www.coquitlam-sar.bc.ca/press-release/coquitlam-search-and-rescue-calls-for-more-volunteers.html) drive resulted in the team taking on 17 new members. The team saw more applications, and of a higher caliber than any previous year. The membership committee, consisting of 7 regular members, spent three weeks winnowing through applications, and interviewing prospective members, the bring the number down to 17. This is the most new members the team has ever taken on at one time. Now the task of training these members, no small time commitment, falls to the training committee. However, learning from previous years, Coquitlam SAR issued the new members with several essential...

It is with extreme sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our Search Rescue dog Barkley. He has lost a short battle with cancer as he recently passed the age of 13.

Barkley has served with Vancouver Fire/Rescue and the City of Vancouver for the past eleven (11) years as well as being a member of Vancouver Urban Search Rescue (CAN TF-1). Barkley was one of the first search-K-9’s to arrive at the North Vancouver mudslide on January 19, 2005. He was also deployed to...

Coquitlam Search and Rescue would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Rose Blake. Rose was a lifelong friend to Coquitlam SAR members Al and Pat Hurley, having lived next door to the family for over fifty years. Over the years Rosie has honoured the team with several generous donations, making her our single largest private donor. In addition, she wrote many a letter to the editor praising our efforts to the press and was not shy about letting them know when she felt that press coverage was inadequate for one of our rescues.Rose was...
