30 Coquitlam Search and Rescue members participated in a 48 hour rescue effort spanning three days on Mount Seymour that concluded successfully Friday evening.
The rescue began on Wednesday evening with a phone call from a snowshoer on Mount Seymour who's companion had fallen over 100 metres (300 feet) down a ice-covered snow slope. Two North Shore Rescue members (Tim Jones and Gord Ferguson) were flown in by helicopter to near the subject's reported position while ground crews escorted his uninjured companion from the area. Due to the serious nature of the subject's injuries, Rescue Squadron 442 (Comox, BC) was called to attempt a rescue, but the Comorant Helicopter was unable to access the area due to low visibility and icing conditions. The decision was made to wait out the night and begin an extraction attempt at first light, ant which point Coquitlam SAR (and other teams became involved).
