Coquitlam SAR was called to search for a missing snowmobiler on Burke mountain. The missing 40 year old was riding with friends Sunday when he decided to do one more run up the mountain solo. He was reported missing on Monday morning when he did not show up for work. While Coquitlam SAR was preparing for the search, he was found deceased by another snowmobiler.
“We were hoping to go up and find his
snowmobile broken down and waiting for us to arrive,” said SAR member
Dwight Yochim. “The trail up there sometimes gets kind of rough and it
looks like he rolled the machine onto himself.”
The search turned into a recovery as the team coordinated the removal
of the deceased and his snowmobile, including transporting the coroner
and the RCMP to and from the scene of the accident.
The search was made much easier by the first winter use of the
team's Argo 8X8 ATV. Equipped with winter tracks, the team was able to
transport four members with packs to and from the accident site 5km
from the road.
