ALERT: Crystal Falls Access

2017-06-06|Crystal Falls, Google Maps, Warning|Press Release
Home » Blog » Press Release » ALERT: Crystal Falls Access

WARNING!

On the weekend, Coquitlam SAR members were training at Upper Coquitlam River Park. Five separate parties approached our members asking for directions to Crystal Falls. You cannot access Crystal Falls from Upper Coquitlam River Park.

It seems that that if you search for Crystal Falls on Google Maps, it directs you to Pipeline Road. THIS IS NOT CORRECT!

The WRONG way to get to Crystal Falls

The Coquitlam River has high water levels during the spring runoff and is not safe to cross. In addition, the route indicated goes across private property. This creates a hazardous situation that we’d like to alert the public about.

The correct access to Crystal Falls is Coquitlam River trails on the east side of the river.

The quickest access point is the public trailhead on Karley Crescent north of Shaughnessy and David.

The location for Crystal Falls is correct on the map. The hike is approximately 45 minutes each way. Remember, even for this hike leave a trip plan and carry the 10 essentials. See AdventureSmart.ca for more info and wilderness safety.

Update

Google does show the correct route to Crystal Falls if you change the transportation mode to walking or cycling. https://goo.gl/maps/zsB6KUambV82
